Today is day five of No Smoking.

I can't afford the cough that goes with smoking; busted rib. I suppose that's a silver lining. The not smoking.
I'm using a nicotine inhaler and have not had any tantrums or violent outbursts and I'm optimistic that I'll be a non-smoker when my rib has healed.
Three cheers for that, right?

Good for you. My lung collapsed 15 years ago. Haven’t had a cigarette since. You can do it.

@gregloa Jesus! I've had a punctured lung before and that was a barrel of monkeys. Was it a spontaneous collapse?

@gregloa So you did nothing to cause the collapse? It just happened? My haemonumathorax was caused by a broken rib, so as you can imagine I'm very wary.

@Cavedweller no nothing was a heavy smoker. Dr said you can sneeze hard and blow pin holes in your lung causing it to collapse. He also said I had the lungs of a 70 year old man. My mind was made up I quit cold turkey.

@gregloa Scary!! How long has it been?
gregloa · 61-69, M
@Cavedweller 15 years ago. My lungs are very healthy now. It took several years before I stopped wheezing and coughing

@gregloa Well done. I'm just going to remember what it feels like to struggle for breath next time I want a cigger.

@Cavedweller it wasn’t easy but my mind was made up. After a month I couldn’t stand the smell of a cigarette. Still can’t.

@gregloa I had a grandmother who was a heavy smoker in her youth. She quit but loved the smell of tobacco smoke, so much so she'd insist on me smoking inside instead of going out for one.
