No one seems to have been taught to respect others opinions even if they don't agree. We tend to think when someone disagrees with us it is a life and death issue and we must save them from their ignorance. So while it may start out good it usually devolves into a shitstorm of hurt feelings and anger. An attack on our values becomes an attack on us as a person.
