Foot/knee/back pain: chiropractor or physiotherapist?

Hello,

I have understood chiropractors as providing short term pain relief and physical therapists who facilitate long term pain relief by strengthening the muscles to prevent injury.

What is your experience?

My experience is that you have to be VERY careful with chiropractors. If the chiropractor does not begin his treatment with an xray, you are dealing with a quack. I have had one chiropractor in particular misdiagnose my shoulder pain, and he hurt me horribly, stating that my collarbone needed to be popped back into the joint, when in fact I had a very bad case of arthritis right in that spot.

Physiotherapists provide much better and more practical help, and because you have seen a doctor before you see the physiotherapist, there is less chance of misdiagnoses and quackery.
