Do you think weight limits on chairs and ladders are a bunch of crap?

We had those folding camping chairs that came in their own bags. They were only rated for 250lbs. My dad was this big huge tall guy who used to weigh over 300lbs. Sat in those chairs all the time nothing ever broke
