If one is using the singular they, should it be "they were" or "they was?"

The "was" is used in first person singular (he, she, it).
The "were" is used in the second person singular and plural (you, your, yours) and first and third person plural (we, they)

Plus "They was" just sounds awful and people can judge you on your words.

I know it sounds mean but I agree with you..very southern. Vocabulary is so different in many places.@joesand99
