I've done similar in the past. I do my best to help anyone in need really, if I am able. As far as getting scammed? I look at it this way, I did the right thing. And I sleep well at night knowing it. I think it's wonderful what you are doing.

I think one only really gets swindled when you give money. Giving $5 in actual gas seems quite genuine. You were kind.Just never give money.
A few weeks ago a guy asked me for petrol money, I gave him about $7 in coins.
ten minutes later, I went to the betting shop and there he was placing bets on horses.
you did a kind thing. leave it at that.
What you do affects you, what they do affects them. You are good, in every sense of the word.

On behalf of all who may someday benefit from your kindness being 'paid forward', I thank you.
You have a good heart. Don't worry about being scammed.

I tend to err on the side of helping, especially when it comes to something like giving someone some fuel. I've been asked a couple of times, and I have helped. I have even overheard someone at a gas station whose card was declined on a couple of occasions.
I dont think so because she got gas and she had a car. The ones that come up to me only have the gas can only and their car is, for some reason parked a few blocks away. I know it is bullshit but I give anyway - its not easy these days.
