they actually think it will cut down on people who use them to crush pills and then use them to snort the powder ,
the paper ones have a wax on them
Guess no one told them they were using dollar bills long before straws
but it is easier to crush them and then reuse a plastic straw than a bill
@rckt148 The city of Seattle has outright banned them now, so in regards to dealing with the local issue, they have made moves to make changes company wide.
It has more to do with cities banning straws because of the harm they cause wildlife. I'm not allowed to take a straw into the zoo even because of their concerns over the animals getting one.

@nonsensiclesnail well they plainly said on the news here they are doing it to cut down on the opioid abuse and deaths
Most major cities now have freezer trucks filled with bodies they can't process there are so many of them
Overdose ,murder and suicide ,
they made me have a Narcan script on file this month to fill my pain meds
New law that went into effect June 1st ,,
The VA is only supplying pain meds for short term care ,and cancer patients
They are making some patients in civilian clinics fill 10 days
then get a new script for 10 days ,and so on
My Doctor has to justify with DEA and the CDC why I am on long term narcotics
my condition is printed on my script .
and it is a separate felony for each pill you are in possession of without a script for them
There is a war on pain meds ,,and I am usually one of the victims
I will need them the rest of my life ,and people who abuse them just keep making it harder and harder
They can now make straws that look like plastic and plates and cups too
that will break down in a matter of days if it ends up in constant sunlight
as with litter .
I assume soon that will be the way they go
So you are saying that someone out there is claiming that getting rid of straws is going to curb the opioid abuse?

@nonsensiclesnail yes ,and it is a reusable tool
They put the pill in the straw ,crush it with a lighter ,dump it onto a surface or just hit it ,put the straw back in their pocket for reuse ,
so I see its like a pipe to smoke weed ,but all they do is make them go back to a bill
thats not stopping people who snort from snorting
they also us straws when smoking Oxys and tar heroin ,so yes
they think it removes one more tool to abuse drugs
