Honestly, while I respect our country’s tradition of providing sanctuary to people escaping wars and oppression, and believe immigrants should be treated fairly, the growing number of homeless citizens indicates that perhaps charity should begin at home. 😐

@bijouxbroussard I literally can't go to the grocery store or to work without seeing a homeless person, either begging or trying to get by.

@GeistInTheMachine Same here. Part of my volunteer work involves helping cook meals and clean at a shelter, and at one point there were mostly people suffering from drug addiction and or mental illnesses. Now there are also working people and families who can’t afford housing.

@softspokenman Yes, and somehow seeing poverty as a character flaw allows them to ignore it and keep any empathy in check.
