I lived in the most segregated area of the US for just over 15 years.
I’ve seen people so many times hassled or questioned for being black. (Or Indian because the cops can’t tell the difference...)
I’ve had to hold back my own anxieties and biases sometimes because it’s the mature thing to do. It was always the right thing to do because whatever my hyperactive brain was saying was wrong.
