Why do people believe "white privilege" is a thing?

Because someone named Emily is going to have an easier time getting a job/mortgage/probation than someone named Rasheeda even if they have the same resume/credit/criminal record.

I don’t like calling it “privilege” because I think privileges are extras and these are things everybody should have, not extras.

But the underlying concept is accurate.

@kate21 I don't completely disagree there....but my argument is that people of color don't like seeing other people of color succeeding.....so, white privilege is null at that point.

That's not white privilege and that doesn't even happen everywhere. If it does happen it's because someone is being racist. Getting a job is based on qualifications. Getting a mortgage is based on credit and money for down payment. @kate21

@redheadchick you need to practice your trolling, clearly. 3/10, would not recommend.

Huh? 😂😂 I'm not trolling, dude. I'm just asking a simple question.@firefall

@kate21 That's nonsense. All of the things you listed are highly regulated and audited to prevent exactly what you are talking about. Nobody gives someone a mortgage because they have a white name, that's ridiculous.
kate21 · 26-30, F
@westwiiler bullshit.

@SumKindaMunster it’a almost impossible to prove discrimination, making it very easy for bias and bigotry to play a role. I realize you probably will dismiss that, and frankly I don’t care. So your Ken research, don’t. Makes no difference to me

@kate21 I figured your response would be a flat dismissal. So be it. However, I worked in job recruiting and mortgage origination and I can assure you what you assume is not true.

If anything, it's exactly the opposite. People want to hire POC and give them mortgages and will typically give them more consideration over a white person because they are required to meet certain quotas on this by the US Government.

@kate21 if you say so. I see it everyday. My white servers make more tips from the black customer then my black servers from the Black customers. So, I guess that could be white privilege, but how do you explain the African-American Community not supporting the African-American workers? And my African-American servers are far better than some of my white servers.
@redheadchick I don't think you understand what the the phrase refers to.
