What's the difference between selfish and self-centered?

They are close to the same thing but i believe (if im not mistaken) that SELFISH is a person that does things for themselves, wants for themselves.. Puts themselves first etc
SELF CENTERED is a person that is selfish but above that they are the only focus of their existence, they are the center of their personal universe .

The biggest difference i think is that selfish is a small adjective it can fit a single wish or action but self centered is a personality trait that underlines or is synonim with selfishness.

Well self centered is selfish even if not intentionally. By having a unrealistic perspective a self centred person will make selfish choices and do selfish things without realising how selfish they are. Adding to this the principle of " Ignorantia juris non excusat" which basically means not knowing the law doesn't mean you can break the law amd get away with it, a self centered person can't excuse their selfish behaviour to the eye of society by stating they hadn't considered how others feel when they did or said something and can not claim it's just a perspective thing not selfish reasons.

For an unselfish kind of self centering there is a specific word called : Introspective.
