Why do laws need to change? Black people can have guns now. And more of them should than do.

@GoodoldBob She's not saying the laws should actually change, she's making fun of people who say two different things. Some people like to say that the best possible situation would be if everyone in America were to have a gun, but then they also say that too much gun violence is caused by Black people with guns, and the government should do something to stop them.

@BlueMetalChick I know that. But what I am saying is that honest law abiding people should be allowed to own guns to protect their families. And I do not think ethnicity should matter.

@GoodoldBob Exactly. The problem is the ineffectiveness, or lack of, laws which prevent people up to no good to get guns. Like that guy who shot up the gay bar in Florida. He was on the US domestic terrorism watch list. But he wasn't actually prohibited by law from purchasing a firearm. Which is silly, why have a domestic terrorism watch list if the people on that list can still arm themselves?

@BlueMetalChick That is the real problem. It is not that there are no gun laws, it's that the gun laws are not enforced! Making more laws won't do any good. Enforcing the ones we already have might.

@GoodoldBob Ughhhhhh I wish more people realized this. Here in Chicago we have tons and tons of gun laws but zero reinforcement because the ATF in this city is owned by the mob. It's so unbelievably easy to get a gun here, all you have to do is exchange cash for a firearm, they ask you no questions, you need no permits, you don't even have to show an ID. You could be underage, you could be an illegal immigrant, you could be a convicted felon, they don't care, so long as you pay the money, you get the gun. Because there's nobody to enforce the laws.

@BlueMetalChick It is easier for the politicians to pass new laws and pretend that they have done something about a problem than it is for them to actually try and solve it. I am from Chicago. I live in NC now. Gun laws are much less strict here but there are nowhere near so many shootings per capita. Laws only help if they are enforced. More laws won't help. Enforcement will.

@GoodoldBob I'm sure there's new laws they can add to help, or old laws they can tweak or modify, change how they do background checks or whatever. But that's second priority stuff. First priority is to make sure the ones we already have are being followed.

The laws are enforced to the best of their ability - you realize that states like NC make it almost impossible for gun control measures to work in places like Chicago, right?
Chicago offers perhaps the starkest example of trafficking. There are no retail gun dealers within city limits, because Chicago has some of the tightest municipal gun regulations. Yet bringing a gun into Chicago can be as simple as driving less than an hour to a gun show in Indiana, where private sales are not recorded and do not require a background check.
Enforce that.

@chrisCA Your profile picture is perfect because I can never read any of your comments without hearing it in Brian Griffin's voice and that always makes it better 😂
