With that logic after you take the first pill in any treatment if you don't notice immediate effects you give up and never take the second pill etc?
Guns are illegal buddy. This shouldn’t have happened full stop.
What now

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout so you're saying nothing that is illegal should happen but still does? Wow mind blown.
Also by that logic: Banning rape murder and robbery didn't stop those from happening so it's stupid to have laws against those, legalize murder rape robbery again. This is how absurd your argument is.
Also you expect guns to just vaporise because you signed a paper, it will take decades of slowly filtering out guns from the population and nobody in their sane mind thinks it would happen over night or that it would stop crime 100% that is just puerile to even consider.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout melbourne is in its way there too, and home invasions are frequent down here, best we can use to defend ourselves in this country is Melee weapons, which I have hidden in parts of my home, machetes are good, hard to wrestle off and can chop the gun off his hand if you get close enough. But still it’s one finger pull and I’m fucked. If we had a right to bear arms, then there a better chance of defence and I’m sure the majority of people would know common sense with safety. Even farmers who are allowed to carry guns with a permit, they have to be locked into heavy duty safes hypothetically by the time farmer joe has to defend himself, farmer joe gets clipped in the back of the head by the intruder while trying to open safe and intruder steals guns and mods them and sell them to the black market and more criminals with guns. Australia had a huge gun culture back in the days and especially when it came to hunting before the ban was even thought of.

@SW-User My question is, assuming you don't have to lock your gun in your safe so your kids don't blow their or eachother's heads off, would you have your gun on your person at all times? Would an intruder in a gun permitting country yell at the door "hey i'm coming to kill you and have a gun!!"? People keep forgetting that GUNS ARE NOT SWORDS you can't parry an attack with them you have 3 scenarios: 1. Bad guy shoots first 2. you shoot first 3. both shoot either at the same time or imediately after while dying or wounded. In 2 out of 3 scenarios you get shot anyway even if we assume you just happened to walk around with your gun strap like a Hollywood cowboy. In fact being armed almost guarantees that scenario 4 where you just get robbed but get to keep your life doesn't happen. And let's not forget that your gun is again useless as soon as the home invaders put their gun on one of your defenseless family members. Would you bet their life on your speed? Again let's not forget ESCALATION if every criminal assumes every victim is armed would it stop crime? Nope it would just make sure the criminal is extra careful to keep the element of surprise, the criminal will try to outgun and outnumber.
As always you forget or willingly ignore that gun control isn't meant to stop crimes from happening (nothing can stop crimes from happening) it's meant to reduce the probabilities of collateral damage especially in urban areas and to minimize the extent of damage a single person can do against groups of people before they are neutralized.

@kayoshin I think youre missing my point, yeah I see that there’s safety issues involved but look at other things that kill people, cigarettes kill people, cars kill people, knives kill people and baseball bats kill people just like guns, but you know what makes a gun different from the rest? A gun has a safety switch.

@SW-User a car has multiple safety systems, everything else you mentioned doesn't offer mass murder capabilities. Cars would probably be banned too if the benefits wouldn't outweigh the damage by such a landslide.
