Are you friendly to strangers in your travels?

I go to the check out line at Publix earlier. There is a mother and daughter ahead of me. About late 50s and late 30s in age. The mother sends the daughter to grab some milk, she hurries past me and then back, she apologizes sheepishly. I smile and say, It's alright. Try being me for a while, I'm in everyone's way. (being a rather tall and wide person)

They had a small shopping basket, abandoned on the conveyor belt, which I offered to return. More for the cashier than for them.

The mother shot me this suspicious side eye. I wondered why.

It sucks that a person has to extend reasonable suspicion to the smallest things. You never know what someone is after.

It could just be that she had a bad experience. I love talking to strangers, for some reason. I do everywhere I go--maybe they think im a weirdo? Idk. Im just me.

I’m always friendly to strangers! Some people respond well, some people don’t. My favorites are the ones who are friendly back!😊

It´s sad that rudeness is more common than kindness.
That´s why people act so suspiciously when faced with an act of courtesy.

@DanielChristensen Mostly I talk to people in line at checkout but sometimes I find myself talking to someone on the aisle where you get flour and sugar or makeup. I've had women ask me what makeup I use or what moisturizer. We get to talking. The other day a lady asked me if I had ever bought the boxed brownie mixes. We got to talking about some things I bake and I gave her a recipe right there in the store.
