How come people don't say exactly how they feel?

That sort of thing does actually happen sometimes, though, especially as you get older. I've had more than one occasion where plans kept falling through (on my end) with the same person for months on end, even when things seemed to work out with others more often than not, and it really was just due to poor luck with other things coming up every time with no overarching pattern.
