Newer mobos just have integrated soundcards, but if you want the real deal you'll need an external DAC!

@FurryFace Most signals that come outta your PC are digital (0 and 1). That's a shitty waveform for music, because soundwaves are just that: waves. So a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) takes the shitty digital signal and turns into a sexy analog waveform. Obviously you need proper cables, speakers and soundfiles to actually make a difference, but it's so fucking worth it. My old teacher was an audiophile and he taught us about that kinda stuff, and one day he brought his old setup to school. Man that was some sexy sound. So rich and full, you could literally hear everything that was going on during recording.

@SW-User yeah the older sound cards had Punch , i used to convert files into wav format just to watch the wave as it played , creative software was good for that
