When the police takes drugs and weed from people what do they do with it ?

My best friend's dad was a cop. Highway patrol seized a car full of marijuana that had been driven up from Miami or some shit. Legally, once it's use as evidence was expended, they had to dispose of it, so they all got together and set it on fire and stood around in the smoke. According to him, that is.
