Here in Canada we have a single payer system with no choice except go to the US for alternate treatment. If you are on the list you stay on the list sometimes for years before your medical needs are met. If you don't die first. Yes Canadians are dying on waiting lists. A young woman was diagnosed with bone cancer. She was put on the list and a year later she was dead. She was never treated. Her diagnosis was that a wait was not fatal for her.
