What are your thoughts on "the customer is always right"?

I don't agree with it. Some people think they can go around acting like straight up jerks to employees.

A form of asskissing to keep business. Customer can most obviously be wrong

I follow "The customer is an idiot that only deserves civil discourse" until they prove me otherwise.

Having worked in hospitality field in one capacity or another in a wide range of places the truth is often time a large part of your job is letting the guest/customer keep the illusion of being right and fix or compensate issues or situations that come up during their experience.

Most hotels that ask for evaluations give a 0-10 range of experience for their stay, but if given an 8, it counts the same as 0, only 9's and 10's count.

You know. People can be jerks. Some may have a whole country club of people that just love them because they act nice around their rich pals.

They go bad mouthing you because you wouldn't put up with their guff.

Now the store loses tons of business.

So, you put up with one jerk and keep 49 good customers.
It's BS. You can't please everyone all of the time.

In business, that's what counts. It means no matter what, don't take what the customer does personally. The aim is to get the job done, make money. Do your job, or find a job where there are no customers to deal with. Some people are indeed jerks, idiots but better to rise above this ;)

What it should be is ...
it is irrelevant if the customer is right, wrong, nice or not ... either service the customer, or find another job
Really? Someone needs to spend several years working in retail.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
You can always quit
Does anywhere still practice that?
