Why do people feel like they need to lie about who they are?

I haven't been visiting this site for long, but it appears as though it's meant to be a place to be open about who you are, what you like, what you've done or seen. Just be you, it's one benefit of being online.

I don't lie, I'm honest in my About Me. I say I have two accounts. I just feel the other on earth is rather wholesome and I didn't want to get a bunch of garbage messages there. The messages here haven't been as bad a single I was expecting, in all honesty. I probably could have combined it but this account makes me feel completely anonymous.
