It’s kind of common for trash trucks to break down, they do hard work with the compactor. Also they get wire from springs in box springs ( that drop off on the road in the dump) wound around the wheels. It takes time to get a mechanic to go up the dump and get the wire cut off. My friend’s husband worked for vehicle maintenance and got called out for such tasks.

@WowwGirl I believe they have a spare truck here but when more than one thing happens with the trucks in a day then there’s going to be a delay in pickups. Also the weather can have an impact if they are having too get out and pick up the trash and throw it in the truck. Big Trash Day this year had the pickup in my area delayed by 4 days to the strong storm that came in on Saturday when they were scheduled to get the big trash hauled off. The scrappers had gone by getting the metal stuff but the rest was still on the curbs till Wednesday.
