↔️ How would you Categorize All Groups and Posts on SW? 🔃

Hello all! 🖐️
We have been moving ahead with plans of restructuring Similar World's Groups and Categories (for all Post types).

As most users may already know, the existing various groups that exist on SW, were imported (many hundreds of thousands) from the defunct website, EP.

To properly organize and improve Similar Worlds, we aim to provide a Category based Hierarchal structure, for all Posts on SW.

This will allow posted content to be properly grouped and categorized,
so that users will finally be able to see more of the content they are looking for,
and less of the types of content they wish to not see.

To move another step closer towards having these changes made, we would now like to allow users the opportunity to suggest to us (the SW staff):

[c=#4C0073]What Broad Categorization do you believe to be most accurate, for the various existing groups and categories that currently appear on our website.[/c]

[c=#800055]We will be working on a feature, yet to be released,
likely a Drop-Menu of Categories, which will exist within each Group on this site, whereby any user can place their "Vote" for the correct categorization of that group, by making a selection from the Drop-Menu list of options.[/c]

Below is a sample (but not the final) list of Broad/Top-Level Categories we are considering, to group of all posts on SW within.

(Further categorized into sub-categories, but we will address this later.)
[big]List of Broad / Top-Level Categories on SW[/big] (Incomplete / Pending)

[big][c=#004A59]• Career
• Fun & Questions
• Health & Fitness
• Identity
• Interests
• Life
• Politics
• Relationship
• Religion
• Self-Improvement
• Sports
• Struggles[/c][/big]
[sep]
[c=#804600][big]• Questionable[/big][/c] [c=#666666](suggested to be Reviewed)[/c]
[c=#800000][big]• Illegal[/big][/c] [c=#666666](strongly suggested to be Removed)[/c]
[c=#4C0073]You can assist us via the comments section below,
by proposing a final list for our Broad / Top-Level Categories
(or by simply suggested adjustments to our list).[/c]

The options listed as:
• Questionable
• Illegal

... can be utilized by users, to help bring to attention inappropriate groups more quickly,
so that we can sooner flush out unwanted and inappropriate groups and discussions, from our Similar Worlds community.

I preferred the more specific groups that EP had. I think this did a better job of helping me see only the posts I wanted to see, based specifically on people who had gone through the same things I have. For example, I was in a group called “I Write Poetry.” When I visited that group, I could almost guarantee that I’d be reading other people’s poetry. I was also in a group called “I Have Seizures.” When I went there, I only saw stories about others who have seizures.

With this “broad strokes” format, I believe I’ll actually see *less* of what I want. If I visit the “career” group, I won’t necessarily see posts to which I can relate, like people with the same career as mine, but stories about all sorts of careers. I’m not interested in banking, so why should I have to see posts from bank tellers when I don’t care about that career field?

And “life?” As opposed to what? That’s the broadest category that could cover literally all the other categories. Is religion not a part of “life?” Are struggles not a part of “life?”

I don’t mean to be overly critical, but this just seems like a bad idea that will make SW *less* like EP, the Web site I loved, not more. I say go back to the ability to create our own groups like EP did.

@RopinTexan He did mention a drop down menu contained within each broad category, and you would be able to click on that to find more specific groups.

@4meAndyou That’s certainly better than just having the broad categories, but I still prefer the old format of EP.
@RopinTexan EP was Golden when it was in its Alpha version. Wow.

I can hardly believe all the features it had.
Just amazing really.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON What do you mean by Alpha version?
