I've resumed strength training after nearly a decade. Any tips on the do's and don'ts?

Start out easy and progress slowly. Jumping right in at older ages leads to torn ligaments and tendons and such.

@WillaKissing Yes do less than you remember what you can do, take it easy , not too many sets and reps, light weights etc..

I did the same but did not follow this advice and I was so stiff I could barely move for a week lol

@WillaKissing I am being careful. Gradually increasing the reps.

@JimboSaturn Are you still working out, or have you stopped?

@JimboSaturn @Unlearn From having 12 major surgeries from Military and sports injuries, I was thrown into this in my forties as well.

@Unlearn This was a decade or more so ago. I continued because I had good weights a the gym in my workplace. However now my new office's gym is kinda lame. I do push ups and sit ups instead. I also run 4-5 days a week.

@JimboSaturn Cardio is the most essential part of a workout routine, especially for us middle-aged men.

@JimboSaturn It’s not like we’re trying to impress the chick next door at this age. Or are we? 😄

@Unlearn Lol, no, I'm old, I'm not impressing anyone. I do it for my health and I admit to some extent my vanity. I have been doing exercise and strength training most of my life and it bugs me when I get too out of shape.

@JimboSaturn I guessed as much 🙂

@JimboSaturn The same with me. At age 59 now and still doing more on my farm than most Healthy 20 years old is my pride. Especially after my 27-year career in the Army doing more than anyone would want to or could imagine doing.

This Summer I busted up concrete and brick with an 8-pound sledgehammer at a construction site and brought home 110 hand loaded loads of concrete and unloaded it by hand into washed out logging roads on my farm using my F-150 pick up. Each load was well over 1000 pounds totaling well over 55 tons of concrete all busted up and moved by hand in 90-degree temps.

I quit the weight training and do farm projects like this for myself and push mow 5 acres up and down hill too.
