None of those. And I don't watch TV, either. And I turn my car engine off when a long train comes through at a railway crossing.

@SW-User I have no TV!

Yes, I turn my car engine off for waits of more than a few moments. Usually, the train is over the crossing and well away in seconds, certainly well under a minute; but of course the gates have to close well before its arrival.

Visiting the town of Weymouth* recently I saw a notice adjacent to its lifting-bridge over part of the harbour, instructing motorists to turn off their engines while waiting for the bridge to re-open to road traffic. Part of that is presumably for the sake of the pedestrians and cyclists also waiting.

...

*The original Weymouth, in England, not the USA one.

I don't know how we survived "the good old days" when the smoke poured out of car tailpipes. This guy down the street from me has a '55 Chrysler V8 that he idles in his driveway for a good 10 minutes before going for a drive. Cough, hack, cough cough hack!

@SW-User He probably thinks he's a car enthusiast... Pity he does not know how to maintain and drive it properly.

@SW-User I know one thing. I lived in the country growing up and for 10 years after getting married. I would take long walks back in the 70’s on rural roads. When a car or pickup would drive by the fumes from the tailpipe would about knock me over at times if there was no wind. It was nasty to breathe that while breathing deeper due to walking fast. Had lead in gas back then, pretty sure it was really unhealthy. And I heard joggers saying the very same thing.

Lead. A killer for sure.
