When I am trying on clothes I want to buy something that looks GOOD on me. That's why they have mirrors in dressing rooms.
I think about where I am going to wear the dress, if it's a dress...for example, I would buy a different dress for church than for a New Year's dinner dance. For a New Year's Eve dinner dance, I would want to look a little bit sexy...and that is FOR my partner and FOR myself.
