@ravenhill The natural order of things? In 'nature' males compete for the right to take the females, by force if necessary. I believe some few modern (human) females still prefer it that way. In 'civilized' society it's frowned on but still happens; however invented rules & embedded cultural customs generally make things a lot more complex.
