I love it.
This is awesome.
To my knowledge, throughout my youth, Barbie was a "normal" (but unusually slim) blonde white chick.
The array of Barbies now is awesome.
I am sure the company behind Barbie has no goals other than making a lot of money, but the fact that society has changed to the point where that requires diverse imagery is wonderful.
Some of the Barbies available now

I am buying my niece one for her birthday. There are all kinds of people in this world and there are all kinds of Barbies in many different shades. My niece has dolls with wheelchairs, hearing aids, and other accessories. She has dolls that represent different occupations and nationalities. Soon she will have the doll with down syndrome. I would love to see Barbie Dolls that represent every conceivable difference she may see in other children. Give me a doll with coke bottle lemse glasses., maybe a little overweight and/ot wearing leg braces or having some other deformity. Give me an introduction that explains how this deformity or hereditary thing happens and I will work it into our play time. I am not certain what her little mind thinks but I know we have a lot of fun together playing with those dolls, and kids nowadays need innocence and less adult bullcrap pushed down their throats.
I think it's nice, to teach kids about the condition early. Lots of kids and teenagers unfortunately laugh at those with disabilities 😞

I think it’s awesome. I thought It was really awesome when they introduced wheelchair barbie too.
Barbie embodies the ideal beautiful woman and now everyone is represented.

I'm very glad Mattel has done so.
If you don't like the doll, just don't buy it!

The skin color is not an issue for me. Is having this doll going to be effective in helping kids understand better how to interact with people with Down Syndrome? What does their R and D study reveal, if there was any?
Mamapolo2016 · F
I think it's a great idea, both for children who have Down's Syndrome and children who have no knowledge of it.

IMO, Mattel is trying to cash in on a disability. What's next, dolls with no hair that represent girls on chemo, dolls with missing limbs, etc? It's like they are making fun of them.

There are 1001 ailments so I’m expecting 1001 barbies now 🤦♂️

@iamonfire696 Everyone’s entitled to their opinion 🙂

@BeefySenpie You are but it’s attitudes like this that do not foster change.
This is more about making a doll with Down’s syndrome, it’s about making people with disabilities more visible and accepted in society. I think it’s a good step in the right direction.

Do they have one with an ankle bracelet and lots of random, cheap tattoos?
I think there is a market for that Barbie as well.

{@nedkelly] downs is a sad fact of life ned though how strange it seems maybe too highlight there existence perhaps 🤷♂️
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@smiler2012 why is it strange? They are people too and deserve to have a Barbie.
smiler2012 · 61-69
@iamonfire696 what i meant to say was it is not wrong to do so and it is nice to see people accept downs .but how far are these people going to go in making dolls that are different from the norm say thalidomite paraplegic handicapped this a mere observation i have no issue with those sort of people what so ever

Is this a hypothetical post or a statement of fact?

I think this is amazing. I applaud Mattel for being more inclusive.
