Why do people assume millennials and gen z have special needs?

Ynotisay · M
I don't know if that's true but, generally, I would say that the perception is self-inflicted. In the good 'ol days, at least for men, being "strong and silent" was a virtue. It's not like that anymore.

@Ynotisay But that ended long before the Millennials and Gen Z. As Susan Cain points out in her book, Quiet the strong, silent type transformed into the sociopath to beware of -- and the association of introverts with low self-esteem and lack of confidence are products of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

@dancingtongue Don't agree. I think it started following the feminist movement and went in to overdrive with the creation of the internet. Today, "strong and silent" or traditional behaviors of men are interchangeable with misogyny. Or "toxic masculinity." That's just not true. It's the broad brush stroke that those seeking grievance or blame use. Susan Cain talks about introverts. That's different. But it is an example of "Look at me - I'm special." People seem to like attaching themselves to labels. And that's the bastion of millennials and Gen Z.
