What do you do for a living?

I rely on the equivalent of a pension - a small income from the investment of an inheritance from Mum.

For 20 years I was a part-time art teacher at primary, secondary and tertiary levels , then 20 years a horse breeder and trainer, for three years an age career... and, way back in student days, I had numerous unskilled jobs like waitress, life modelling, etc.

Nowadays, all the various forms of work I do are unpaid.

@hartfire No. :)
Thanks for your sympathy, but honestly it's okay.
I know how to live within my means - cheaply but healthily.
Except for weeding, I enjoy my volunteering in the community, love writing, and enjoy my friends and partner.
Weeding is a grim necessity in this subtropical, rural environment - leaves one sore and itchy - scratches and prickles from thorns, ticks, leeches, slips, sprains and bruises all to be tended at the end of a day's labour - and always dealing with the most urgent priorities, never managing to get on top of it - a Sisyphean task.

Hey, how would it be if I ask you the same questions you ask here on this board? How would you respond?

@hartfire I am into cyber security. The work and pay is alright. Just that the politics at work is despicable. Life is comfortable...

@Unlearn Does "the politics at work" mean competition for more power, influence or promotions within the company, or people discussing their views of politics during breaks?

In cyber security, do you see it as possible to develop reliable protections against malware, viruses, phishers and scammers?

Today's news in Australia announced that someone had hacked the personal ID details of every Optus customer, over 800,000 people in one day!
(Optus is an American-owned mobile telephone company, the second largest service provider here.)

I'm glad your life is comfortable.
As the Buddha said, prosperity is a blessing.

@hartfire it's politics for power, promotion, etc. Yes that's what I do...securing my organization at perimeter.
hartfire · 61-69
@Unlearn Do you hope to stay in your current position or are you aiming for promotion? Do you merely watching others or are you forced to watch your back to protect where you are?

I imagine it would be hard to practice equanimity if issues of survival are on the line.

@hartfire I am doing well in my current position. There is no threat to it either. Just that I it becomes stressful sometimes and politics exacerbates the whole situation. I am planning to look for greener pastures 😀

@Unlearn I hope you find a place with a better atmosphere and the same job satisfaction. You'll get a good reference, I feel sure of that.
