Have you outgrown your childhood fears? I used to be terrified

To death of darkness. I still prefer sleeping with some night light on rather than in complete darkness. I thought grown ups automatically outgrow childhood things

I remember when I was 5, my aunt locked me up in dark apartment and came back at 4 am from a party. I was so terrified that I went outside on a balcony and yelled crying for neighbors to rescue me 😄😄😄

As a child I used to wake up in the middle of night and feel like I'm unable to move while there was some entity standing there in the room. It was especially tricky if I woke up having to go to the bathroom so I'd just wait for the feeling to pass so I could "be brave" walk a few steps to there and back and quickly go back to sleep. It was only recently when I had a similar thing happen to me and I realized I couldn't move nor open my eyes that it hit me... it wasn't irrational fear.

Well, it happened...

I had a fear that my mum would die, just because of how she was, and it happened. Crushed me.

In the back of my mind I have a fear over my wife - she's 20 years older than me, so that will do doubt happen in the future.

Mostly.

Everything frightened me as a child. Other kids, authority figures, water (pools, ponds, lakes), and the dark. I got picked in a fair amount, bc I was too afraid to stand up for myself. I had really scary nightmares and would sleep with my blankets over my head as I was so afraid of the dark.

When I was 6ish I had this terribly frightening dream where a monster was scaring me. Ultimately in the dream I stood up to the monster and actually killed it. My nightmares ended and I stopped being so afraid of everything. While I was still shy and socially awkward, I wasn’t terrified of everything anymore.

I can see why you developed a fear of the dark! Only 5! I’m sorry you had to go through that.

As a child, I used to be quite scared of the abyss, I would fever dream that I was all alone in a sort of nothingness, and also travelling through what I could only later describe as infinity, eternity, etc.

I guess I am still sort of freaked out by it's concept, but have learned to live with it.

The days of the boogey man were simple. I used to watch horror movies on tv then be afraid to go to bed.

Nobody came to help?
They're still there, at times I can best them but they're still there.

Mostly it's the dark and 'monsters' (it's actually an army of the Groke from the Moomins) attacking in my sleep

I still have some childhood superstitions that I know are ridiculous but my emotional side holds on to them.
