It's more like he finally engineering away your sex drive and genitals. DNA programming all living things to be plant eaters, reproducing designer babies in test tubes, using drugs not for raves, but for general well feeling while plugging our brains into virtual worlds. Shit like that. Not MDMA orgies and cool stuff like that.

@Straylight That's the thing. Being a part of several groups and boards about Transhumanism and the Hedonisitic Imperative I rarely see anything but rejection of humanity and nature. I've yet to see any embracing of either and just this vitriolic and sour grapes war against both. I find the philosophy very myopic and depressing. I also think it will weaken us as a species in the long run.

@MethDozer They think being better means being less human. They can dress it up however they like, but they're nihilists. A humanity with no gender, no natural happiness, no culture is basically the Borg. An efficient culture, but not one I'd want to be part of.
I want a future of integrated technology that makes us better. Nanites that repair damage, implants that extend lives and make us learn faster, maybe even integrated partner AI's. But in a culture that celebrates experience and differences, not one that seeks to eradicate them.

@Straylight I'M not to keen on transhumanism philosophy. I don't think it has the monopoly on societal improvement it often claims.

All these things happen wether we like it or not. I ain't denying anyone and will likely adapt then myself. Won't have much choice if one wants to remain competitive. I just don't see it as promising much or actually improving actual human happiness or connection. In a big way it is just the evolution of materialism and consumerism. A Brave New Keeping Up With the Joneses.

@MethDozer One philosophy on it's own wont improve society. But if we can cherry pick the better parts of many...

@Straylight Well that's the thing. I don't find all the things a transhumanist is interested in as a problem. One doesn't have to subscribe to entire philosophy in order to have some if the same goals or agreement on some things.

I agree with some of what Marx says, yet I aint a communist, I agree on a few ideas of Rand, yet I certainly ain't an objectivist. I am however somewhat what Agin would call a bioluddite.

@MethDozer I also like cults. Different religions and fringe practices are interesting.
