If you don't already own a property, will you be able to before you retire from the workforce?

Will you own a property of your own before you retire? I'm 51 and have been renting for over 10 yrs. I once did own a property with my first ex-partner, but that was given away in seperation proceedings so my kids (who are now basically adults) didn't get kicked out of their home at the time.
