Have you made any New Year's resolutions for this year?

This year, I plan to:

Lose weight and get into better shape.

Keep in better touch with my friends.

Learn to be more assertive and protect my boundaries better.

And finally, most importantly,

This is the year that I'm going to stop letting life happen to me. I'm going to start making things happen. Some of those things might not really seem possible right now, but I'm going to find a way.
I've never made a resolution. They seem silly to me. Why resolve on a certain date to better oneself? One can do that any date. Same with Christmas. Should not "peace on Earth, goodwill toward all" be practiced everyday and not just one?

I hope you succeed but I find the concept of it hypocritical.

@TeresaRudolph71 Starting a new year is an excellent time to take stock and, as is commonly said, make resolutions. Yours are very worthwhile and i hope you achieve success with them.
Excelsior (ever upward)!
There is a Taoist saying: Change threatens the caterpillar but is essential to the butterfly.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@laotzu92 I like that saying. And thank you, I'm going to do the best I can. I don't feel like I've made much progress so far, but I'm going to keep working at it.

@TeresaRudolph71 You might ewant to look at Jordan Peterson's book "12 Rules for Life" which touches on some of the things You are resolving.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
Hi. What are some of those things? And why dont they seem possible?
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@iamnikki Right!
laotzu92 · 70-79, M
@TeresaRudolph71 Find a simple volunteer activity you can handle. Do this ubtil you are accustomed and then take on something more challenging or additionally.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@laotzu92 Hmm, that's an idea. I do have a good job now, though it may be ending for a while this summer. I should be called back in September, if I do a good job, but it would be nice to have something to fill in that time. We'll see.
Lately it's been: Survive, don't let them break you down completely.

Don’t you look like the fly in your display picture?
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@SW-User Ha, if only I were that beautiful. I'm afraid that I probably look more like the caterpillar before it transformed into the butterfly. But maybe this year I'll make my metamorphosis happen.

I'm sure you don't look anything like your profile picture either.

Just looking to make tomorrow better then today. Do more good than harm
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@St0ut That's a very good resolution. I like that.
Be less dumb. Try not to hate myself so much.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@JustGoneNow Awww, I can't imagine why you would hate yourself. And I've seen some real wisdom from you.
@TeresaRudolph71 Thank you. 🦋

And 6 months on,how are you doing?
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@SW-User Oh gosh, I hadn't thought about this in a while. Well, I'm afraid I'm still not in very good shape. One thing that I feel that I've improved a little is become a little more assertive, protecting my boundaries better. That has been a bit of a battle lately, but I like to think I'm making progress.

@sspec Thanks! Well, I'm not in the best shape, but maybe with this nice weather we're having, I'll be able to get out more and get more exercise.

I understand. We never know what the day, let alone the year, may bring, so we can only handle each moment the best way we know how.
