Why do we strive to be happy?

CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
Happiness is self-evidently good. Why wouldn't we?
emereese · 26-30
@CaptainCanadia it just gets tiring sometimes
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
@emereese Have you tried sadness? That shit's exhausting.
emereese · 26-30
@CaptainCanadia Yes. I've been depressed for years so I know but I find it harder to look for happiness at times
SW-User
Because life is easier when you aren't miserable.
emereese · 26-30
@SW-User But it's not easy to find that happiness.
SW-User
@emereese That doesn't mean it's not worth trying.
emereese · 26-30
@SW-User What if you've been at it for years? That stuff gets tiring.
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
Far better than being miserable :)
emereese · 26-30
@MikefromEP True 🤔
AnukBinary · M
Because being miserable sucks
emereese · 26-30
@AnukBinary it does 😐
AlmostAnAngel · 100+, F
I'm tired of being sad.

For me, someone who's been depressed for a long time, I can't comprehend this.
emereese · 26-30
@SW-User Thanks *hugs back*
emereese · 26-30
@CaptainCanadia I wish. I'm just tired of everything I guess. Society expects us to be happy always but what about us people who can't be happy, they cast us out and label us instead of helping us. It makes me sick.
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
@emereese I understand that. My wife had a major, major depressive crash two years ago and I've been helping her as best I can. And when you have no energy to do anything it's just so much easier to hide and quit for a while.
impulsive · 26-30, M
Because we associate happiness with the things nature wants us to do to survive and recreate.
emereese · 26-30
@impulsive True. Sounds so simple if you put it that way 😥
impulsive · 26-30, M
@emereese Often things are in the end, its all just chemicals in our brains, a reward system to make sure we follow our programming given to us by nature. It doesn't mean that there isn't any meaning or beauty in life though. Our intelligence is what uplifts us from being simple animals, we can take those chemicals in our brains and twist them in new ways for good or ill. Hence many of the addiction problems we face in society today.
metalicblack · 46-50, M
Because that is what society tells us to do
emereese · 26-30
@metalicblack Can be 🤔
metalicblack · 46-50, M
@emereese it's sad but if you except the fact that you won't be happy the time and energy you save is unreal
SW-User
The alternative sucks?
emereese · 26-30
@SW-User it really does.
