While I have developed the capacity for sternness in myself
Im beginning my journey of discipline once again. Musashi's book of 5 rings is very accurate in how it is cultivated, the challenges and doubts we face and how to overcome these obstacles.
Water ring was how I overcame myself before I knew of it, being flexible towards yourself and goals, flowing with and around them instead of crashing into them. An example is you set a goal to do 100 push ups and the thought of it stops you. You set a goal of 25, find it easy and do another 30. You've done 55 in 10 minutes and your 100 goal seems miniscule and achievable. You end up doing more than you set out originally by initially doing less.
This can be applied to anything, reading, meditation, diet, running, you name it.
