I mean, there's also Bloodborne.

@UndeadPrivateer believe it or not, I've never owned a console so it's an unknown world

🙀! Shocking! Bloodborne is good shit if you have any kind of appreciation for Gothic Horror, Lovecraftian fiction and action games.

@UndeadPrivateer Ugh! That game was awful.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Allelse It was great, I loved it from start to finish. And oh so pretty.

@UndeadPrivateer Honestly, I like to play very intense twitch games and rhythm and puzzle games, I have trouble getting into RPGs these days because I find the character-building to be a drag.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@SW-User The RPG bits are relatively minimal for Bloodborne, it's primarily an action game. Your builds largely just determine what weapons you're using, emphasis is definitely on personal skill and reactions rather than stats.(Though you can of course cheese the system.)

@UndeadPrivateer I'm definitely considering it, used PS4s are about half the cost of a graphics card rn
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@SW-User Yeah, I've been having similar thoughts to fulfill my gaming cravings.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@UndeadPrivateer Hnggg I want Bloodborne. Stupid exclusives.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@CountScrofula I got to play it only thanks to my cousin, who let me play it to death while I was up visiting her shortly after it came out. Got the chance to play the DLC on a later visit. You can feel the developer love dripping off that game.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@UndeadPrivateer Awesome. I'm actually just starting Dark Souls 1 again so will just play through those since I'm all PC until I finally get a PS4.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@CountScrofula Dark Souls is good stuff as well, though after Bloodborne their art direction does feel terribly uninspired and the combat is a lot more humdrum. To touch on @SW-User's mention of RPGs sometimes dragging or getting nitpicky, Dark Souls leans much more on the RPG trappings in that respect and can as a result drag notably more. To put it in other words Dark Souls is a bit more RPG than Action, Bloodborne is a bit more Action than RPG.

@UndeadPrivateer I used to be really into RPGs but I just don't feel like I can invest the time into them anymore. Path of Exile is a great example. My husband and a friend play this, and I tried to keep up with them but I can't because I hate dealing with skill trees and inventory management and farming and grinding and all the rest of it. Once I get too far behind, I can't play with them anymore and I don't have any motivation to play on my own.

@CountScrofula I'm playing Crypt of the NecroDancer though and I'm really enjoying it
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SW-User I've heard it's really great and intend to check it out! Sounds like the kind of weird concept I can get right in to.

And I get you on RPGs. Multiplayer ones particularly because the metagame is so essential to doing well. RPG to me means character and story - the game mechanics should support that.

@UndeadPrivateer Hence why I wanna play it ;) Buuut not enough to buy a PS4 just yet. It's not going anywhere. I'll get there.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@SW-User I get you and I'd definitely not recommend Dark Souls in that case. Bloodborne doesn't really have anything in the way of skill trees or inventory management, it's just a few stat numbers that determine if you can use things and how much damage they do, what magic the game does have is fairly simplified. Dark Souls has a lot more involved in managing weapon and armor loads and learning spells and miracles and all that jazz.
