Which should I play first? Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas?

I bought both (regular FO3 and all DLC pack for FONV, cheap thanks to summer sale)
But which one should I play first? I hear FO3 is good but it's FONV I want to play, but do I need FO3 for context?

Play New Vegas first, then if 3 is needed for context, you'll get neat little surprises while you play it :)

@TetrisGuy Oh OK. I know when I'm not wanted :(

Nah it's not that you're not wanted, but it's just that you wouldn't be able to help with this specific question :P

@TetrisGuy Yes, FO3 occurs during the timeline of 2277 (specifically starting at August 17, 9:04am). No matter how long the player takes to complete the game the un-official accepted timeline states that the game also finishes that year with the completion of the key objective of the game.

Fallout: New Vegas takes place in 2281 (again, specifically with the intro happening on October 11th and the actual game starting on October 19th at 8:00am). As a side note, Fallout 4 begins on October 23rd, 2287.

As for which one to play first, you choose. The games are mostly independent of each other. You can play any of them without having played others (I've never played #2 or Tactics but I've finished #1, #3 and done a lot of work in NV, still playing #4).

If you're interested in the timeline of the Fallout world you can find more about it on their Wiki page:

FO3 first because Its too awesome of a game not to play. 😬
@TetrisGuy I game share with a friend and he buys everything new so I’m pretty lucky lol. I just wish I had time to play half of them lol

screw FO if you havent touched on Witcher. Its much better, although i must warn you it's not turn based :D Personally i love Dragon Age, all parts
TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
@SW-User lol I bought fallout for one character lol
TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
I spent $13 just to get in depth lore on one character and the game's theme for the sake of fanfiction lol.

I know absolutely nothing about fallout aside from apocalypse lol.
It'll be more fun to go into it with hardly any knowledge of what's going to happen. I'm bored of playing games that I'm familiar with in category lol.
TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
It's nothing compared to the thousands of dollars I've probably spent and plan on spending towards tetris lol.

@cashless To be honest I look for story as opposed to difficulty with RPGs. I'd rather have a better story with an RPG than have it be so difficult I can't enjoy the story.

There's a case of being TOO easy though. I mean ffs portal you are a PUZZLE game you should've acted like one lol

Oh yeah I'm just trying to get the main storyline for that one for now, so that I can get on with FONV to play with Yes Man's storyline lol
Allelse · 36-40, M
New Vegas is alot harder but I enjoyed New Vegas a hell of alot more.
TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
@Allelse To be honest I literally never cared for the game and only bought it because of Yes Man. He's super cute and I want to write more accurate fanfiction about him. Fucking hate writing fanfiction without knowing in depth lore LOL
Allelse · 36-40, M
@TetrisGuy I went with Yes Man during my play through.
TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
@Allelse I certainly will because holy fuck he's cute.
