What was the saddest thing you've ever seen/experienced in a video game?

for me, it was killing Toriel in Undertale, basically i wanted to spare her but didn't know what do to, so after trying all the options and failed (wasn't aware you were supposed to keep pressing spare until she eventually stopped fighting), i hoped that if you'd bring her health down to zero you'd then be given the option to spare her, and much to my shock and horror, all that happened when her HP went to 0 was her sprite dissolving into dust and her soul breaking, to say i was sad would be an understatement, Toriel was one of the kindest characters in whole game and one i'd have the least wanted to kill, even worse here being that i had the possibility to spare her but failed, it upset me enough that i didn't booted up the game again for several days

In Shadow of the Colossus. Every time I killed a colossus, it felt like a triumph for me yet every time I kill one, just the saddest music plays as they fall over. That and the main character gets uglier and more deformed-looking after every colossus I kill! Then at the very end, you realize that you've pretty much been the bad guy all along, killing the last of the race of colossi, most of which who were actually peaceful and didn't attack you until you provoked them. 😢
Mother 3 had a lot of emotional moments. I still remember I teared up the first time I played through it, and I never really cried over a game before in my childhood. Claus' death is probably the first that comes to mind.

@RemovedUsername827813 oh god don't remind me, just seeing it on YT was bad enough so playing must be tearjerker to the max
@NitorTNT Yeah, the claus fight is a lot more intense if you're actually playing it as opposed to watching it. That's fine if you just watched the game though, because I think most of us really play the Mother games for their wacky dialogue and wacky story. It does have a lot of mechanics which are very different from other RPGs though. I would just say go get the ROM of the game, but sadly Nintendo took down Emuparadise, so it's kind of hard to get ROMs these days. I still have a bunch of ROMs left over though, thankfully.
