Anyone got much experience with microwaves that don't have a rotating turntable?

I was on a new locomotive recently that has a microwave but it has a setup I've never seen before - instead of the regular glass platter on which the food container is placed and is turned slowly by a motor it just has a flat plate (not glass?) and the food heated really well so it must have a vastly different design of operation.

Anyone know much about them?

I remember when microwaves didn't have turntables. They still cooked food.

@Starcrossed I'd only ever seen the glass plate type until just recently, so I got curious.

@zonavar68 my folks had this GIANT microwave in the 80/90s that had no turntable, it lived forever. I remember always thinking everyone who had the turntables had newer fancier ones. 😅

Thx for the feedback. I use microwaves a fair being being a shiftworker.

My existing unit is almost 10 yrs old and has a few issues so an upgrade is due and a flatbed microwave seems like the way to go.
