I am not sure how a kettle, be it electric or for use on a hob, can be "state of the art" but I do think kettle and teapot designers have lost the art of designing spouts that pour cleanly!
(I have both a hob kettle, used mainly for heating the washing-up water, and an electric jug pattern kettle.)

@ArishMell Kettles these days come with timers, thermostats, digital displays, and touch controls. My sister had one, briefly. Someone overfilled it apparently and it boiled over and the electronics got damp causing it to misbehave.
