Would you agree to a chip implant..if that chip contained happiness ?

curiosi · 61-69, F Best Comment
Their is no man made cure for spiritual illness, it is impossible. So it is a moot point.
Redstar · 36-40, M
@curiosi It's a hypothetical question... they aren't trying to make a point.
Driver2 · M
@curiosi true ,plus if we were always happy it would be boring
revenant · F
@curiosi you are very right I think

GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
i believe if we created such a thing, it wouldnt be true happiness and there would still be suicide.it would most likely just act as a dopamine injector type thing. people woulnt actually enjoy their lives, just the rush of "feel good" until withdrawal, ignoring their needs in life to maintain the "high". kinda like video games or TV does currently. just to a higher extreme.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@revenant were are backed into a corner at every turn. how we handle it depends on the integrity of the person. this is why there are different progressions of lives. i believe suicide is the last desperate attempt to be free of pain when loosing hope of every seeing happiness again. a person doesnt need to understand all the laws of the universe to find happiness. its an ability all beings have but its hidden from us and untrained. we are instead taught about some old men that ruled the world and and how to buy things.
revenant · F
@GuyWithOpinions yes but what you are saying : many people would not care. They would want relief now
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@revenant thats the way we are trained to think. every time you buy a usless item cause its on sale, everytime you get a notification on facebook or eat trash cause it tastes good. this is just all short burst of dopamine. thats why we do it over and over and over cause it feels good. doesnt mean its good for you. this state isnt natural to us. its been projected on us for the benifit of a small group of people. scale of worlds finance: 1% filthy ritch - 99% worried of scarcity. people are depressed because we are forced to live lies when deeply we know this isnt right. if the illusion was lifted and people understood their true selves, we would find love. not agony.
Driver2 · M
No , if it could it would be fake happiness .
We have enough of that already
SW-User
Nope, happiness is irrelevant if you never experience any sadness. Plus I like to create and define my own happiness.
revenant · F
@SW-User there you go hence my question :)
SW-User
@revenant In that case one needs to learn to deal with their trauma and how to connect and trust people again. A happy chip is a happy chip always. Imagine sharing with a friend, a deeply saddning experience and they respond with oh, how lovely... or express an appropriate response with incongruent body language...🤔
revenant · F
@SW-User then you would not care if the friend does not care !
Quizzical · 46-50, M
I find a Fish 'n' Chip 'implant' does the job quite nicely
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@revenant Well... I'll be fat and happy 😁
revenant · F
@Quizzical your chance to take the thin and healthy chip is nullified now 😁
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@revenant Ah well, lol
Deserthiker · 61-69, M
Happiness can not be created by outside stimuli. You can laugh and have a good time, be glad. That wears off. The opposite of happy is unhappy, not sad. Just like glad, sad wears off.
Happiness comes from within and it is a permanent condition. Well, it should be.
OMG that was long winded
revenant · F
@Deserthiker life is not all flowers and singing birds. Not everybody is equipped
Deserthiker · 61-69, M
@revenant I understand. Unfortunately, suffering may be the only way to find happiness. Finding the slightest things in life which one is thankful for, is a good starting point.
I do understand some people are, as you put it, not equipped to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Very unfortunate
I wish you the best
revenant · F
@Deserthiker I am not talking about myself .😒 General question !
Mattbennet · 51-55, M
Why cant you just put salt and vinegar on them and eat them with fish ?🤣😆
wackidywack · 22-25
at this point, I feel like I would🙃
revenant · F
@wackidywack an honest one here
SW-User
Were such a thing possible, as long as it would still allow me to exercise free will, sure.
revenant · F
@SW-User some people experience very high and very low peaks unlike some who are more average. Perhaps it is way too exhausting to ride the rollercoaster.
SW-User
@revenant That is true, the experience can be too much for some, but there are those (crazy) people who kind-of enjoy the whole experience. Er, so I've heard... um, I think I read that somewhere. 😏🤭
revenant · F
@SW-User ah yes it is true. Life would be too boring otherwise for some. It would be like an endless bleeeeeeeeeeeep.
antidepressants could be a thing in the past though :)
rachelsj · 22-25, F
Palpatine might call order 66. No thank you
Peppa · 31-35, F
What like a cocaine like euphoria? The high without the low and health reduction?
No fucking way....
Peppa · 31-35, F
@revenant Well I know those are things I'm going through now and if I'm honest although I want it to be over I no its a process. So noooo
revenant · F
@Peppa think about it 😊
Peppa · 31-35, F
@revenant I know the chip won't just make me happy it will contain something to either track or slowly kill me from laughter.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
If I'd always be happy because of a chip I wouldn't know I was happy so no.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@revenant Maybe. But I already do some of the stress relieving techniques to put it bluntly and they work remarkably well for me. So I probably don't feel the need for anything else.
revenant · F
@MasterofNone that is good for you then ! Your entourage might want it !
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
SW-User
Too good to be true😯
I wouldn't trust!
SW-User
They will do good $$$
I'll stick to my 🍷
revenant · F
@SW-User 🍺😁
SW-User
🍻Cheers!
SW-User
Absolutely not.
SW-User
@revenant I imagine a synthesized happiness to be as real and energizing as a fake smile.
revenant · F
@SW-User you imagine..so you do not know ,but I get it
SW-User
@revenant No but what i do know is we spent time with those we love because the feelings we share are real. Theres a time and place for everything even for happiness and yes, sadness.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
If such a thing were even possible, no.
revenant · F
@ravenwind43 it might in the future. Ditch your prozac
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@revenant It would be a false happiness at best. I would off myself if that is all I had to look forward to.🙂
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
What’s wrong with me just pretending to be happy like I do now🤔
cycleman · 61-69, M
better if has a cure for the summer time blues

Redstar · 36-40, M
Maybe. If that's really all it contained but I couldn't really be sure.
Anyway, I wouldn't be keen on a false happiness but sometimes it would be better than depression. But it would depend on whether or not I can remove it or at least turn it off whenever I want to.
