Can a living human be cryo-frozen, have life for that person effectively stand still, and be brought out of cryo-freeze in the future?

What actually happens to the human body when cryo-frozen if the person is living at the time? Can it actually be done without killing the person? Can the person be brought out of cryo-freeze at some arbitrary point in the future and have their entire bio-chemistry 're-start' like it was when frozen?
