Actually, it was around that time that I began enjoying chat rooms and the opportunities to talk to talk to people with different perspectives from different cultures and saw it as increasing understanding. My secretary OTOH would argue the opposite, and tell me how concerned she was that her kids spent all their time online and were getting warped views of the world from disinformation and misinformation. Alas, she turned out to be the better prophet.

To be fair, 30 years ago was 1992 and was a time when people were going online but the Internet as we know it didn’t exist but there were chat capabilities on bulletin board systems. IRC which was first larger chat system turned up a couple of years later and there were many arguments in it.

@PaleandPolluted in some ways it was easier as it was widely shared on usenet which was a sort of forum platform with loads of channels where people could write posts and reply etc. A few years later i remember JennyCam which was a site with a 24x7 video feed from Jenny!
