One theory holds that the brain stores electrical impulses and acts like a capacitor.. at the time of death the body stops functioning but the brain takes a little time to completely shut down and discharge it electrical impulses.
During this time we're in a kind of temporary dream state but since we have no connection to the world and no reference for time those few moments could actually be perceived as an eternity of random moments..

People suspend critical thought when it comes to religion. They can't even agree amongst themselves on what to believe bc there's no evidence for any of this stuff aside from how a passage/scripture makes someone 'feel' or them having an epiphany
