@Jdanielb It's the spike protein by which the immune system recognizes the virus. It actually is part of the virus, gathered from the virus. At least Johnson and AstraZeneca are. Pfizer and Moderna are instructions to create that protein.

All vaccines are designed to activate your immune system to prompt it to generate antibodies and t cells that if then you get infected they fight it.

No vaccine prevents you getting infection it primes your immune system to be better able to tackle infection when you get it.

The three models used currently are...

Typical technology, oxford/AZ which uses a deactivated chimpanzee virus modified with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.

Typical technology use deactivated actual SARS-CoV-2 virus. I think Janson uses that.

MRNA new technology that pharma has been looking at for some years. Implant the MRNA into cells which then creates cells like the virus that causes immune response.

All sound like a vaccine to me.

The "shot" contains as I stated, plus carrier obviously. Read the relevant information patient labels. For example if you're prolife you may not want the AZ one as it uses fetal kidney cells in the propagation phase of production. There's no human cells in it by time it gets to your arm but they are used in growing the vaccine. Some vegans argue against that as well as it exploits a chimpanzee virus.

The pfe one is best on that count as it is purely a man male. Go read Katalin Karikó's work to understand.

Essentially the mRNA tells muscle cells to produce cells in the body with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein on them. Spike protein is the bit on the outside of the virus that binds to the ACE2 receptor in the body. So you now have "invading" cells with that on them. The immune system goes to war against them building antibodies and t cells that bind to that protein to sweep them out your body. Just as it would do with any infection or poison. It then is primed to tackle the real virus when you get infected.


It does not in fact cannot alter your dna in anyway if that is your concern

Really. I think India disproves that the 127,000 at least who've died in my country, at least 5 times worse than equivalent worse years of flu deaths in last 10 years. Just look at the figures relative to 5 year average death rates.

Then look at countries like Israel and UK where close to "herd immunity" through vaccination and the current death rates back below 5 year average rates.
