@beermeplease I looked this phenomenon up a while back. It's an addiction: it's the adrenalin and serotonin rush they get from being shocking, causing aggravation and the attention.It's equivalent of a child that acts up for attention, ie even bad behaviour gets a response.
Ultimately they only end up hurting themselves in the long run, as eventually their groupies realize their only contribution is 'hurt'.
They are the basic bully, insecure with no skills to draw on to engage people in a positive way.
There are a few comedic trolls .I like those ones
They can sometimes lighten up a tense moment. But it takes good comedic skill to do it successfully
