I discovered that peace is what most of we elderly enjoy the most - the way an old dog loves quiet walks, sniffing all the smells and lots of long naps.
It is primarily a state of mind that comes from complete acceptance of all that is: aches and pains, the quirks of people, the state of the world, the inevitability of the sum of it all -- and the transience, the constant states of change. While pain and decay are real, so is the beauty, wonder and vastness of it all.
