1980's april fool's...trip down memory lane

i started my career at a very interesting time, just as personal computers using vinyl floppy disc with ms-dos were new and each department had to share IT, yes ONE for a whole dept. printers used 11-17 box of paper underneath them. we worked by large thick tab run reports keeping penciled notes thruout the week until the new reports were handed out to us. you couldnt look up just anything on the computer, only the most basic info in those days. a request had to made and several days later the reports with new contracts, requistion, work order numbers etc. would be printed overnight. engineers still wore white shirts with a 6" metal ruler in shirt pocket . formal dress was still the normal including ties, skirts, dresses, heels. smoking pipe or cigar was acceptable, a pint bottle was kept in a file cabinet or desk drawer. petting and flirting as well as prank phone calls and many other jokes were expected and enjoyed by all. i expected to be the butt of a few pranks and pay my dues being the new kid on the block. after some time passed i figured a little harmless payback was in order to fit in and be accepted. it is now april 1...fool's day.
i assumed everyone knew the qwerty keyboard layout and my prank may be considered lame. while everyone was in cafeteria having their hot breakfast i switched around several letters on our keyboard. sure enough when they returned someone went to look up something. they yelled whats going on here?? i punch A and get H. i punch R get O. i punch G get Z?? i had to leave before cracking up. taking a long walk and returning their was a huge crowd AND help desk manager standing around the computer!! finally i had to take credit, it was just too good to keep a secret hahahaha!!
