What happens when the edibles hit?

I experimented with drugs quite a lot as a teenager, even nearly died from an overdose. Edibles never did that to me BUT I hated them b/c the effects never hit immediately. Like I would try an edible and be perfectly fine for hours then all of a sudden I was high. Once when my parents were away my mother Skyped to check in. She automatically knew something was wrong b/c normally talkative and outgoing me was taking a long time to respond, mixing up languages although I speak only English to her, and staring off into space. She asked me to take off my glasses b/c she wanted to see my eyes (which were glassy and reddening), but of course I refused and said I was so tired. At the end of the call I was so out of it that I just stood and walked off. She called me back b/c I'd not said I loved and missed her which I ALWAYS did b/c I truly do worship her. I kind of stumbled and fell in front of my laptop again which really made her suspicious. "Son, are you SURE you're okay?!' I assured her that I was fine over and over again although I couldn't keep my language straight or hold coherent conversation. I stumbled to my bedroom, struggled to take my clothes off, and flipped down on my bed waiting for the effects to wear off. I vowed to NEVER use edibles again b/c unlike everything else I had tried edibles were sneaky and unpredictable and had caused me to mess up when I was normally careful about concealing my drug use.
