Best to just ask.
I know of a pair who had been lovers for about 7 months. They lived about 800 ks apart, but commuted by train to stay at each other's places for about a week at a time.
He complained when she used too much shampoo for her long hair.
Twice she discovered he'd run up a debt of over $400 at his local general store; twice she paid it.
When he found out he ended the relationship on the grounds that she was "too good for him."
I can imagine all sorts of situations where one might say that to the other.
In broadest terms, it probably means the one saying it has a low opinion of themselves, their abilities or behaviour.
I interpret it as intending to mean, "we're not a match."
